Open Question: Can't Conservatives And Liberals Get Along?

Can't we, rightists, leftists, liberals, and conservatives just agree that congress and the government just sucks? I mean, this is coming from me, a libertarian. I look rightists and leftists fighting every the time. Why do we even vote for republicans or democrats if they promise the same thing? More government, more taxes, and more regulation? I mean, maybe that's what leftists want, but can we agree that our current government is a wreck? We need to realize the two-party system is just a distraction. And I'll be completely honest with you, I think conservatives are a little more sane than liberals. I don't really like either though. Please realize obama is full of it too, leftists.

Open Question: Why are there so many conservatives?

I'm so sick of conservatives.  You people say you are Christians; yet you only seem to care about yourselves.  You don't appear to know the meaning of the word "empathy".  You are liars and hypocrites.  You do NOT practice what you preach.  You have very few good ideas.  Balancing the budget, paying down the national debt, a fair tax and Second Amendment rights I'm every for; but that's about as far as it goes.  Progressives have consistently been on the right side of history; while conservatives have not.  Civil Rights, women's suffrage, education, worker's rights and now gay rights...the list goes on and on.  Conservatives seem to be against science and knowledge; yet many of them have faith in a magical man in the sky that sometimes grants wishes.  For most people, voting for Republicans is actually voting AGAINST their possess best interests.  Privatize Social Security?  Imagine if they had passed that before the recession!  Don't believe in climate change?  Fine, but can you at least be on board with the fact that we should cease as much pollution as possible?  Against health care for every?!  Really?  Yet they are totally chilly with building another aircraft carrier or buying more missiles and bullets. Conservatives adore to harp on welfare yet "red" states receive more federal aid than "blue". Our Justice system has been proven to be seriously flawed; yet conservatives are full steam ahead with the death penalty. You want to pay down the national debt? Hey, good for you; but how do you think we are going to be able to do that without raising taxes. We are talking TRILLIONS of dollars here. Yes we have to make every government programs smaller and more efficient, but in the end we will still have to pay higher taxes. You won't though will you. We send troops off to kill, receive killed or maimed. That's patriotism. every your government will ask of you is that you clip a slightly larger check. Now, how patriotic are you really? Being willing to torture people is NOT patriotic. It is sick and twisted. Your sense of freedom, justice and patriotism is seriously flawed. I could go on and on. Sorry for the rant, I'm just getting really fed up. Conservatives are BAD for this country. They seem to think it's chilly to be stupid. Yes, Democrats are horrible. They don't always do the right thing, but at least they are trying to help someone other than themselves. Statistically, 50% of people have below average intelligence (obviously). Is that why progressives and conservatives are so evenly divided?

Open Question: Are Democrats being serious?? This is a joke right?

Republicans have started pointing out the fact that the Democratic party is very corrupt (which it is). Democrats are countering by saying basically 'well, we're not as corrupt as you'. (yes, Republicans were very corrupt when they controlled the govt. a few years ago) RECAP: BOTH major parties are VERY corrupt. THEN they [Democrats] went one step further and actually tried to defend their record in 2009. Unfortunately for those making that argument there's the inconvenient truth that 2009 was K-road's (the lobbyists) best year ever. Do Democrats just assume the public is dumb?? Are they below some delusion that makes them think we can't look them?? (Democrats are as well versed in "pay-to-play" politics as Republicans...........look no further than the stimulus or this healthcare bill) http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/dems-on-gop-ethics-charges-you-have-got-to-be-joking.php?ref=fpblg Democrats don't discount the fact that the Rangel debacle--and growing questions about Rep. Eric Massa (D-NY) who resigned yesterday--are serious issues. But they note a couple significant differences: The Republican list of ethics problems was seemingly endless, and, unlike Democrats, the GOP actually tried to shield their members from repercussions. "We've made very, very substantial reforms in this Congress," said home Majority Leader Steny Hoyer at his weekly press conference today. "At the beginning of the 110th Congress--the last Congress--[we] banned gifts from lobbyists, prohibited use of corporate jets, mandated ethics training for every home employees, established an office of Congressional ethics, we ensured transparency for earmarks, requiring full disclosure of every bills and conference reports, forfeiture of pension and annuity for congressional service if a member is convicted of a serious crime, broader and more detailed disclosures of lobbying activities by paid lobbyists." Aides make the point more bluntly. "home Democrats have instituted strong new ethics, earmark and lobbying reforms to hold members of Congress accountable," says Doug Thornell, spokesman for Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), the sixth-ranking Democrat in the home. We have also reprimanded members who have been found to have broken the public's trust. I guess the GOP is hoping voters have short-term memory loss. When they were in the majority, a few years ago, they ran a 'pay to play' system with K road based out of their leadership offices, changed the rules to protect Tom Delay, and tried to cover-up the Foley scandal, among other things. They supported no meaningful reforms and in fact voted against many of the measures we passed last Congress. It's Official: 2009 Was Record Year For Lobbying, Despite Recession http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/12/its-official-2009-was-rec_n_460160.html john....................if you READ the link (you obviously didn't) it was simply citing a middle for Responsive Politics review of 2009 lobbying in the U.S. congress.

Open Question: Isn't it scary how the Democrats got rid of Senator Eric Massa?

Eric Massa was a democrat against health care reform. He was just on Larry King and explained that they came after him because he wouldn't change his mind about health care, so they said he groped someone and in 18 hours removed him from Congress. Scary scary times... Obama and his gang are power hungry and ruining our country right in front of our eyes! He said chief of staff Ron Emanuel said if you don't receive on board (re: health care) there are going to be consequences, then less than 24 hours later he was booted! He brought up his interview on Glen Beck and said he had a short sound bite and couldn't receive everything out whereas he had a lot of time on Larry King and went into the details, saying it was the first time he was exposing every the truth behind it because he was fed up and not going to cover up for the Democrats any more since he doesn't like what they're doing. He said it's not worth his energy and his family going through the grinder by them and even though he's going to give in and walk away because they're forcing him to, he at least wants the public to know what is behind the whole thing and he repeated several times that it every has to do with the fact that he wouldn't give in to the health care and has been very outspoken about it. Sorry but I'll believe him over the thugs any day.

Open Question: Why didn't the movie, "Thirteen Days" show the negotiation the US made of removing US missiles in Turkey?

The main reason USSR was putting missiles in Cuba was a deterrence for the US having put missiles in Turkey. Turkey borders Russia. One of the option then was that the United States should offer the Soviet Union a deal. In return for the Soviet Union dismantling her missiles in Cuba, the United States would withdraw her nuclear missiles from Turkey and Italy. Khrushchev sent Kennedy a letter. In this he proposed that the Soviet Union would be willing to remove the missiles in Cuba in exchange for a promise by the United States that they would not invade Cuba. The next day a second letter from Khrushchev arrived demanding that the United States remove their nuclear bases in Turkey. While the president and his advisers were analyzing Khrushchev's two letters, news came through that a U-2 plane had been shot down over Cuba. The leaders of the military, reminding Kennedy of the promise he had made, argued that he should now give orders for the bombing of Cuba. Kennedy refused and instead sent a letter to Khrushchev accepting the terms of his first letter. Khrushchev agreed and gave orders for the missiles to be dismantled. Eight days later the elections for Congress took place. The Democrats increased their majority and it was estimated that Kennedy would now have an extra twelve supporters in Congress for his policies. The Cuban Missile Crisis was the first and only nuclear confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. The event appeared to frighten both sides and it marked a change in the development of the icy War. Some of the direct consequences of the crisis include the following: (1) The two sides established a direct communications link that became known as the Hot Line. It was hoped that this would help prevent dangerous confrontations such as the Cuban Missile Crisis arising again. Three months after the Cuban Missile Crisis the United States secretly removed every its nuclear missiles from Turkey and Italy.
